Week of Integrity

 

The Week of Integrity is an annual multi-stakeholder initiative from 1 to 9 December prior to the international UN Anti-Corruption Day on 9 December. Public and private parties, academics and NGOs join forces to raise awareness of the importance of ethical behaviour. We create momentum and show that ethical behaviour is everyone’s responsibility. The Week of Integrity will contribute to the debate about what ethical behaviour means in practice, for organizations and for individuals.

Year-round sharing, learning, innovating
The Week of Integrity is not limited to the first week of December. As a matter of fact, it is a year round initiative, bringing together partners, promoting innovative thinking and knowledge sharing. In the Netherlands there are currently some 90 partner organizations that meet year-round in inspiring knowledge sharing sessions and round tables.

The Week of Integrity in your countryAfter the Netherlands, Albania was the first country to adopt the Week of Integrity. By organizing this initiative, the importance of the dialogue on integrity is recognized by the public and private sector and NGOs. ICC Netherlands, initiator of the Week of Integrity, encourages potential partners to connect and set up your local Week of Integrity. Partners
Organizations of all kinds are invited to become a partner to the Week of Integrity, as long as it follows the Week’s basic principles, among others:

  • The organization realises the importance of mutual understanding on integrity between the private sector, the public sector and NGOs and is willing to exchange thoughts and experiences on this matter;
  • The organization is already actively promoting integrity within their own organization;
  • The activities of the partner organized during the Week of Integrity have no commercial intent.

Integrity is everyone’s responsibility
Ethical behaviour means doing what you are supposed to do and being able to justify your actions. An ethical organization is an organization that does justice to the people and organizations it works with. It is an organization that is trusted, both from within and from the outside.

What does ethical behaviour mean on a day-to-day basis? When does one behave ethically as an individual or as an organization? Although the increased attention for fraud and corruption issues is positive, only rules and enforcement are insufficient to combat it effectively. Promoting conduct based on ethical values, not only improves the organization’s culture, but also its functioning.

Initiative
The Week of Integrity is an initiative of ICC Netherlands. ICC has been a pioneer in the fight against corruption, issuing its first version of the ICC Rules of Conduct to combat Extortion and Bribery in 1977. ICC also played an important role in establishing the respective OECD and UN Anti-corruption Conventions. ICC is at the forefront of the development of ethics, anti-corruption and corporate responsibility advocacy codes and guidelines, providing a lead voice for the business community in this rapidly changing field.

This initiative supports the UN Global Goals.
